Opera Rara is rewriting operatic history through its restoration of operatic treasures that have been lost to time and circumstance, bringing them back for the enjoyment and education of the public. Plumbing the depths of history, we discover works that deserve to be heard.

From composers whose reputations have faded to operas that were performed only briefly before disappearing, we look for music with something important to say — and something extraordinary to hear. Through hours of research by top experts, we revive dormant manuscripts, creating modern editions of music that can be enjoyed and studied anew today.

Opera Rara continues to engage audiences in London and elsewhere through a programme of once-in-a-lifetime concerts, giving people the chance to hear rarely, if ever, performed music for the first time. Our opera concert performances offer the unique opportunity to hear these works sung by some of the world greatest artists alongside exciting, emerging talent – all in partnership with our orchestra and chorus partners. Our Salon Concert Series brings young artists to intimate venues, performing a programme of newly restored songs curated especially for them.

Opera Rara’s work not only to restore the operatic gems from the past but also to record them in the studio makes it possible for these operas and songs to reach thousands of listeners worldwide. This creates a vibrant artistic legacy that will survive long past the initial performance of the work. Our recordings, distributed worldwide by Warner Classics, are streamed millions of times every year in over 160 countries, and they have won many awards, including the International Opera Awards, Gramophone Awards, OPER! Awards, Opus Klassik Awards and the International Classical Music Awards among others.
